art process:

firstly, let's define my style a bit - i don't really have a set name for it, it's just sort of my style, yknow? i guess the best way to define it is kemono + kidcore? but i use those terms loosely, i feel it's way more than that, and i don't want to be defined as a kemono furry artist because i feel its oversimplifying.the first thing i do in my art is think of what i want to draw. what character, what kind of aesthetic, colour scheme, etc. i have many different inspiration boards on pinterest for this purpose, from moodboards to pose references, alongside many others. i even have a super well-organised board dedicated to art advice and tips!the next thing i do is make sure my canvas colour isn't pure white. this is mainly for comfort as the brightness strains my eyes, but it also helps if the character itself has white in its colour scheme. my canvas colour is #b0a499so once i have my ideas, i start sketching. my sketching style is very messy. i love messy sketching, i love chicken scratching, its the best thing ever, fuck clean sketches they are overrated af. messy sketches ftw.
in my sketch i scribble down the body, expression, guidelines for anatomy if i'm doing a particular pose, and any particular additions like wings. i do not usually sketch clothes unless i feel the need to, such as if i've never drawn those particular clothes before and need a guideline for it.
once the sketch is done, i move onto lineart. i lower the opacity of the sketch layer and make two new layers, one for the lineart and one for the colouring. i reorder the layers so that the lineart layer is above the sketch, and the colouring layer is below the sketch.fun fact: i do ALL my lineart on the same layer. it overcomplicates everything if i use multiple. apparently this is a hot take.once lineart is done, i move onto colouring. depending on the character's colour scheme i may first colour in the base with colour #ffa694 to help tell the difference if the colours are too similar to the canvas colour. this happens especially with my fursona.once colouring is done, i move onto shading. the first shading i do is hatch shading, and the first place i start shading is the bangs of the hair. then i move to the ears, -> face, and move down from there. my shading is usually a greyish purple on a multiply layeri then create a clipping layer on multiply and start rendering. i'm not sure how to describe what i do here. generally i use a more saturated purple/magenta and go over my hatch shading and add some depth to areas around the hatch shading that i didn't reach before. after this part is done, i use heavily saturated dark blue and colour across the very edges of the rendering, marking out the darkest points. at the very end, i copy and paste the layer and set it to overlay, and mess around with the opacity of both layers until it fitsafter this, i move onto the background. i'm not very creative with backgrounds at the moment so i'll be brief here. this also includes effects like hearts and stuff in the background. firstly i do the solid colour, then the white outline around the character (this is also messy like the sketch), then the background's effects. i may also airbrush behind the white outline to make the character pop out from the backgroundfinishing touches include varying my line weight - i do this around random areas usually, but mostly around areas that need to pop out more like hands if they're near the facelastly, i add my watermark somewhere not immediately visible but you could find it if you tried hard enoughand that's pretty much it
